Stop Drinking Alcohol And Get Out Of Denial

Most people I know, including myself, that are addicted to alcohol live their life in denial.  For me, I never thought for a moment that I had an addiction to alcohol although many people thought differently.

If you have a drinking problem, and abuse alcohol like so many people do, you have to stop drinking alcohol and get out of denial.

I truly believe that denial is what holds us back from getting sober and living a life of sobriety.  So many people I know, (and that includes me) thing there is nothing wrong with how much they drink.  They think that having a 12 pack or so each night is no problem at all.  The reason they think this is because that 12 pack that they built up in their system over time has no effect on their personality or the way they act after drinking that much. Little do they know right?  I have people tell me, "I will video you while you have 12 or so beers in you, and will show you when you are sober."

I know people that drink way more than a 12 pack in one night, believe me, and they think nothing of it.  They are so used to having all that alcohol that their bodies just get used to it, but the problem is they want more and more to get that buzz that they had drinking that 12 pack.

You build up that tolerance, and your body just needs more alcohol, and if you don't give your body, (and your demons) what they need you are one miserable person. Such as, running out of alcohol just as you are getting that great buzz and drunk on.

So the first thing you must do is to admit that you have a drinking problem, and you just could be an alcoholic.  Then you need to get yourself out of the denial you have been living in for so long and take that first step towards sobriety, just like I did in 2009.

A positive attitude is required to even start on your road to recovery.  Without having a positive attitude you will get nowhere fast.  Negativity will hold you back for sure.  You can't tell yourself, "Oh, I don't know if I can get and stay sober."  That is the wrong attitude to have if you want to change your life and live your life sober.

Here is my Ebook called My Life Of Alcohol Addiction.

There are hundreds of other articles I have written on HubPages in regards to addiction to alcohol, living a happy and simple life, positive attitudes and much more.

Why Do Alcoholics Live In Denial

If you are, or know someone that is an alcoholic, answer me this.  "Why do alcoholics live in denial?  Can you answer that question?

I bet I can answer this question because I was one of those people that had an addiction to alcohol and lived in denial every single day of my drinking days.  Those days are long gone now, Thank God.

No matter what anyone told me, I thought that what they said was completely crazy and out of order.  I would think and say to them, "you are out of your mind and don't know what you are talking about."  I can handle my alcohol just fine, and as far as drinking everyday, who cares, I am not hurting anyone!"

Man was I wrong with that statement.  I never knew I was so addicted to alcohol and certainly didn't realize I was hurting so many people that loved and cared for me. The alcohol ran my life and told me what to do and say.  I was completely blinded to the outside world and never thought I was hurting anyone, but myself and my health.

Alcohol made me feel as if I would never get sick from it, and thank God that never happened, but if I were to continue drinking and going down that destructive path of life, sooner or later it would of got me, as it will get every alcoholic one way or another in the end.  Whether it be sickness, or a horrible accident caused by over drinking and abusing alcohol and for the worst part, drinking and driving accidents.  With drinking and driving as we all know, we are not only putting your life in danger, but you would be putting innocent lives in danger as well.

The alcoholic just can't accept the fact that they have a real alcohol problem.  They think that their life is just fine and they are not bothering anyone.  Well, I have to say, your life is not fine and you are bothering many of people by your addiction to alcohol.  You can't see it because you are living in denial and blinded by your own addiction.  I can say this, because what I am stating here was me three years ago until I finally saw the light and stopped drinking alcohol.\

The alcoholic thinks they are living a normal life, because many of their friends are also alcoholics and share the same interest which is drinking alcohol.  The drink and carry on, having a great old time and when the booze starts to flow they are all the smartest in the subject they are talking about.  Does any of this sound familiar to you at all?

What I did, and what you should think about seriously is to look at your life as you are living it at that moment and think to yourself where you will be in a year or two from that moment.  Look around you carefully and take notice of the people that are in your life and that love and care for you, such as your spouse and children.

Think real hard if it is worth having an addiction to alcohol and abusing alcohol everyday or be apart of the family that care for you so much.  The choice really isn't that hard to figure out.  It took me years to be able to look past my addiction to alcohol and see the world around me as I was sober.  You can't look at things in the right way having alcohol in your system.  Take a break for a day and really look into your life and what is all around your.  The vision will be clear and it just might give you a wake up call to turn your life around and start enjoying life being sober.  Sobriety is a wonderful thing if you just give it a chance!

One other important thing to mention once you get out of denial and what to live a life of sobriety is, "YOU NEED TO THINK AND ACT WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!

By having a positive attitude in your quest to living a clean and sober life, you will see the denial start to just go away just as it did for me over three years ago.  Once I admitted I had problem with alcohol, and it was out of control, I got out of the denial I lived in for so long and I wanted my life back the way it was before alcohol took over.
MY eBOOK AND HOW I STARTED TO DRINK
You too can do the exact same thing if you have it in your heart and soul to live a better life for yourself, and for your families and friends, you will give them a better life just by being around you sober.

THINK ABOUT IT, AND GET OUT OF THE DENIAL YOU ARE LIVING IN.  MAKE UP YOUR MIND AND JUST DO IT ONCE AND FOR ALL. ONCE YOU HAVE TASTED SOBRIETY, EACH DAY WILL GET BETTER AND BETTER AND YOUR LIFE WILL CHANGE RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES.

GRANTED, GETTING AND STAYING SOBER WILL NOT BE EASY, BUT NOTHING IS EASY IN LIFE WHEN SOMETHING GOOD WILL COME OUT OF IT!!

Living With A Spouse That Has An Addiction To Alcohol

Are you living with a spouse that has an addiction to alcohol?  If so, what do you do to try and make living with that spouse a bit more easier?

I don't have all the answers, but I can tell you that my wife put up with me drinking alcohol everyday for years.  Sometimes when love is so true and unconditional, spouses seem to just hang in there hoping for a miracle that the person they love will see the light and stop drinking alcohol forever.

In my case, and I am sure millions of people throughout the world, have had the same problem.  They wish so bad that their loved one would stop abusing and drinking alcohol.  They wait and wait hoping they will quit drinking and start living a life of sobriety.

How long should you really wait until you just give up on your spouse surrendering to his/her addiction to alcohol?  I just think it depends on how much you love that person and how determined you are and want that person to see the light and stop drinking alcohol and get back to his/her real self without relying on the crutch of alcohol.

Life is so precious and we the alcoholics don't even realize what we are doing to the people that love and care for us so much.  We are not only killing ourselves, but we are destroying our families and the ones that love us.  Alcohol blinds us so much and runs our lives everyday, we can't see what we are doing to others,a and if by chance we do see it, we don't care because the alcohol tells us different.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP YOUR LOVED ONE STOP DRINKING ?

  • You are helping your spouse by enabling him/her in their addiction to alcohol.
  • You have to be strong and be able to say no, I will not give you any money to support your addiction.
  • You have to be stern. but not so that you and your spouse begin to fight and argue over the addiction that is ruining your lives.  I have seen, and have been there, when my wife would approach me regarding how much alcohol I drink and that I should really stop.  I would listen as many alcoholics do, until the sober spouse has said so much that the alcoholic gets more upset and starts to drink even more just out of spite.  It is a vicious cycle, day in and day out.
  • You must talk to the alcoholic in a way that you make are making a strong point letting them know how unhappy you are and you want this relationship or marriage to work and not be ruined by the addiction to alcohol they have.
  • I have found that talking in a civil manner helps more than screaming and yelling at your spouse.  Be calm, but stern about your concerns of their addiction.  Try to explain to them that they are ruining their health and destroying the love that they once had.
  • I know from my experiences of drinking alcohol for years that no matter what a spouse says to the alcoholic, the alcoholic will never stop drinking until he/she is ready to do it on their own and not be forced into sobriety.
  • I had quit drinking a couple of times just to make peace in the household, but over time when I felt that everything had calmed down, I felt save to start drinking again.  I would start out with a beer or two and then BANG I went right back to old ways of pounding them down all night long.  I am sure many alcoholics have done the exact same thing.  To stop for awhile to just make peace.  It will never work, believe me. You have to want sobriety and until then no matter what anyone says or what Rehab. Center you may go in, long term sobriety will never happen until you have it in your heart to stop drinking and stop forever.
  • It is really a hard thing to do if you fight it, but if you just look at your life and those around you that love you, sobriety will happen when you are ready and not before.
  • Rehab. Centers are wonderful, but you have to stick to it even after being released and not think you can have a drink or two at a party, etc.  You will relapse faster than you can shake a stick, as they say.
**Love yourself and others enough to stop drinking alcohol forever.  Save your life, and save your relationship and marriage.  Don't let alcohol run and ruin your life.

Anyone can stop drinking if you put your mind to it and think with a POSITIVE ATTITUDE that you will get and stay sober.  Believe in yourself and love yourself enough to stop drinking.

Is Alcohol Ruining Your Life

Think about how your life was before you started drinking alcohol.  Is alcohol ruining your life or do you think you have a great life even being addicted to alcohol?

Many people would more than likely say that alcohol doesn't effect their life at all, but maybe they should take a closer look around them and see what is being effected by them being addicted to alcohol.

So many alcoholics live each day in denial and really don't see what is going on around them.  They can't see who is being effected by their addiction and who is crying inside that the alcoholic will not get out of denial and seek help.  They are basically blinded from their own addiction and don't have to willingness to surrender to the addiction that is slowly ruining their life, and I might add, slowly killing them self.

There is no one that can change an alcoholics life except the alcoholic them self.  If every person that is addicted to alcohol would stop and look at their life and those lives around them, they will realize that something is horribly going wrong.  Alcohol addiction not only ruins the addicted person's life, but their spouses, children, family and friends suffer right along with them.  The difference is that the alcoholic is slowly killing them self and making their families and friends start to become distant because of the lifestyle the alcoholic leads. So, the alcoholic is losing everything in their life ever so slowly and they don't see it coming until the bottom falls out completely and they hit rock bottom.  Then they may wake up and change their life. It's sad, but true.  Sometimes it takes a huge life upset in order for the alcoholic to realize there is no way to beat this addiction, except to surrender to it once and for all.

Alcohol will certainly ruin your life and others, but you have the power within to stop this poison from destroying everything you have.  All you need to do is admit that you have a problem and then DO SOMETHING about it to correct this addiction you have.

Once you step up to the plate and get out of the denial you are living with and take all the necessary steps to get and stay sober you will see how your life will begin to change in a positive way.  It's all up to you whether you want the life of addiction or a clean and healthy life of sobriety.

Sober Up 2012

For all the people out there that are suffering with an addiction, how about we Sober Up 2012 and make this the best year of your life, with many years great to follow.

We can all do it if you support and help each other.  So what do you say, do you want to give a shot or stay in the destructive world you live in now?

Sobriety is waiting for us and it has been calling you and I for some time, but we the addicted are fighting to stay in our own little world of denial and going along with our demons advise, which is to kill ourselves slow but sure.  I don't know about you, but the words, kill, death, dying or getting so ill you can't do any in your life scares me to no end.

We are all starting a new year 2012 so why not begin it on the up with living life sober.  Yeah I know the word sober or sobriety makes the person that is addicted to alcohol or drugs a little nervous or on edge and I can't blame you for feeling that way, but there is always a better life out there if you want it bad enough and believe me you don't need to be drunk or high to enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong, getting sober and staying sober will take some work, and in some cases some very hard work to achieve your sobriety.  Nothing is easy when you want to make your life better.  Believe me, once you take that first step towards sobriety you will see that all the work and pure desire to get sober will pay off in the end.

If you truly want a better life for you and your families than you are the only one that can make that happen and no one else.  If you have the willingness, the strong desire and the strenght to give up your addiction then it will happen.  You must continue to stay positive and continue telling yourself that you CAN and WILL get sober and STAY sober.

Believe in yourself.  Love yourself more than ever and make sure you love yourself enough to live a long and happy life enjoying each and every minute with your families and friends.

If you like the Ocean or Bay, then take a ride there one day and take a good look at what you maybe missing out on if you were to continue down that road to self destruction, and more than likely you will experience poor health, and possibly death, all because of a avoidable addiction that you can stop.

Smell that wonderful fresh salt air, something that isn't in hospital rooms.  Look at the deep blue skies that you will only see ceilings in your hospital room or bed ridden in your home with no sign of daylight.  Are you getting the point yet?

These are only a few of many things you will miss out on in life if you were not to change.  I don't know what to write to change your minds to get sober and get out of the addicted life you live in.  Does it take a horrible scare for you to change your ways and habits and your way of life?  Lets not let it go that far Okay!

You can change your life RIGHT NOW!!

Change your outlook on life.  Change you Attitude and make it POSITIVE.  Believe in yourself and love life, not destroy it.

Stuggling Everyday To Stay Sober

For all those that has had an addiction to alcohol and now in recovery find themselves struggling everyday to stay sober and deep in back of their minds wonder if they will relapse during the upcoming Holiday Season.

How strong are you?  Do you think you are stronger than the demons inside you that are just
waiting for you to give in and start drinking alcohol again?  The demons lay back waiting for you to break, but you have to smarter and stronger than them.  As for myself, they have a long long wait to see another drop of alcohol pass my lips.

Sure every alcoholic that has chose to get clean and sober struggles to stay clean and sober and I think that it pretty much the norm, at least it is for me.  What the heck, when you lived with alcohol in your life everyday for years the urge and temptation does come about now and then, but you just have to let that urge pass and not break and drink, not even one drop or else we all know what happens next.  Yep, right back where we began at day one again trying to get sober again.

Don't let anything or anyone get in your way of your sobriety and continue telling yourself you will remain sober no matter what life throws at you.

Life seems like a struggle not only with addictions, but just to live each and everyday and to live it healthy, sober and manage your everyday lives to the fullest, but no one said life is easy right?

You need to make the best of each day and whatever you do, you need to do it the best you can and to your fullest expectations.  Don't cut yourself short, and don't get down on yourself because you might have not accomplished something you thought would of work out well.  If by any chance you do relapse, don't be too hard on yourself, but be stern enough to start all over again and get back up and try again.

Many of us do relapse for one reason or another, but you need to try again and if need be, again until you get it right and stay sober.  Some of us get sobriety on the first try, but those that are having a tough time, never give up on yourself.  Work as hard as you can to achieve your sobriety and at the end of the day and you are clean and sober you will look back at your journey and the hard work you put forth to get sober, you will be one proud person.

Happy Sober Holidays Everyone!!!

What Steps Are Needed To Getting Clean And Sober

There are so many people that have an addiction to alcohol in our world today.  Sad to say, but so very true.  You have no idea just how many people suffer from alcoholism and want a better life , but have no idea how to go about getting that life of sobriety.

They are caught up in the world of addiction with nowhere to turn, or should I say, they choose not to change for the fear of how their life would be without their crutch.

What steps are needed to getting clean and sober?

Step #1 -  First and most important, the alcoholic needs to want to be clean and sober and not get sober because someone is forcing it on them.  They have to want sobriety so bad that they are willing to do anything to get their life back on track and get sober.

Step #2 - They have to get out of the denial they have been living in and finally admit to them self that they are indeed an alcoholic and need help to get clean and sober.  I think once the alcoholic admits there is a huge problem with them and their family life, in which is totally effected by the actions of the addicted person, things will begin to make more sense of why they should try their hardest to surrender to their addiction to alcohol.

Step #3- They have to look at their life and how they are living it in comparison to the way they lived before getting addicted to this horrible addiction we call alcoholism.  They must see for themselves that they are destroying their bodies and their family as well.

Step#4 - They need to visualize how their life can be living it sober.  Once they can see that their future can be brighter they may then just surrender to their addiction to alcohol.  All they have to do is to look around them and see for them self who is avoiding them.  People that may have been close friends and falling distant because of the poor life style the alcoholic has could be the reason they steer away and avoid being around the alcoholic. The alcoholic can surely see that something is missing in their life and without changing their life they might just lose everything they have over time including their own life.  Addictions are nothing to mess with.  It is like holding a loaded gun and playing Russian Roulette.  Sooner or later you will pull the trigger and the one single bullet in the chamber will be fired.

Step#5-  The alcoholic needs to take a good hard look at their spouse and children a see just how his/her addiction is also effecting them and ruining their lives as well.  You really have to be blind not to see that your bad habits effect many people, not only yourself.

Step #6- The alcoholic needs to change his/her outlook in life and stop feeling sorry for them self and start doing something about it and then take massive action to get sober if they truly want to be free of their addiction once and for all.  Sobriety is out there for all.  It will not come to you.  You need to go after it and shut down the demons inside of you that run and ruin all those addicted in time.  The only way to beat you addiction is to SURRENDER to it.

Step#7- Tell yourself and promise yourself that you will never pick up another alcoholic drink the rest of your life.  If you can hold true to this promise to yourself then you are serious about getting clean and sober.  So now, all you have to do is to JUST DO IT and don't look back.  Run as fast as you can from your addiction.  Never be weak and let your demons back into your life no matter what happens, whether it be bad or good.  Don't back down or give in because something may have happened to upset you and feel as if you need to drink to fix the problem because believe me it won't work.

Step#8- Keep a Positive Attitude towards get sober.  Believe in yourself.  Tell yourself no matter what happens in your life you WILL NOT relapse. Stay strong.  Keep determined to stay clean and sober forever.  Stay busy physically and mentally.  Take up a hobby that you are interested in.  Spend quality time with your family. If you feel uneasy at a party that is serving alcohol, don't go!  Stay clear of all those that are still drinking alcohol and partying. ( These people just may try and shame you into drinking again, but don't give in.)  Just walk away and say NO THANKS.  You know those words, "MISERY LOVES COMPANY"  Don't be the company.  Be stronger than your addiction and with all this and the determination and desire to get and stay sober you should have no problem getting clean and sober.  It's all in the mind and that mind you have can do miraculous things if you let it, so lets get sober and stay sober!!

Assist Not Enable An Alcoholic

When there is alcoholism in the family or just someone you may know and love, we think by giving the alcoholic things they may ask for such as money to support their addiction and saying it's Okay by us to drink is helping them, and in fact we are helping them destroy themselves.

Assist not enable an alcoholic is what we should be doing.  Assist them in their need to get help.  Give them the love and support to get better and surrender to their addiction.

Support them in every way possible, but never enable them with their addiction.  Don't let them know it is okay by what they are doing.  Try to explain to the alcoholic that they are slowing killing them self and possibly on the verge of losing their family and friends if you see it with your own eyes, because the alcoholic can not see these things, for they are blinded by their addiction, just as I was two years ago.

So many people that are addicted to alcohol live in their own little world of denial and really can't understand why people harass them with their alcoholism problem.  We all try to make the alcoholic understand what they are doing is not good at all, but they just don't want to listen, nor did I.

I thought everyone was crazy to even think I had a addiction to alcohol.  Now that I am clean and sober, I now realize that I was the crazy one and not them.  They did not enable me at all, in fact they tried so hard to assist me in getting help and I just wasn't ready to surrender to my addiction, just as so many alcoholics feel.

No matter what people say or do regarding you quitting drinking alcohol, if you are not ready in your heart to give up and surrender once and for all, then no matter what they say is useless.

So the bottom line is if you truly want to help the alcoholic surrender to their addiction, them help them in the right way by leading them in the right direction towards a clean and sober life.  Don't give up on them.  Sooner or later, hopefully they will see the light at the end of the tunnel and admit they do have an addiction to alcohol and then they will ask for the help they need, but until they are ready, assist them and not enable them.

Why Do Alcoholics Lie To Others

Being an alcoholic myself, but now clean and sober for over two years I learned all the tricks of how to hide and lie to others about my drinking.  The question is, "why do alcoholics lie to others?"

When a person has become addicted to alcohol, some of them may hide their addiction from others for the reason of embarrassment.  I know that after many years of my drinking alcohol I began to get embarrassed to even go outside with a beer in my hand.  I knew deep down that what I was doing was wrong, and I say wrong because I would have a beer in my hand pretty much all day.

Don't get me wrong, I love to drink and have nothing against anyone that drinks alcohol, but in my case I carried it too far and didn't know when to stop.  I didn't have that luxury of having one or two drinks and call it quits for the day.  I had to get enough alcohol to cop that buzz I longed for each day.  Now sober and looking back on those days I was really foolish and a very weak person to say the least and never learned to say the words, "enough is enough."

As far as the lies alcoholics tell, they are endless.  I knew a few myself, but in the end I (we) are only lying to ourselves.  I lived, as many alcoholics live in a world of denial.  No matter what anyone tells us we don't believe them or care to listen to their ridiculous remarks on how much we drink.

People would come up to me and ask:
Why do you drink so much?
Haven't you had enough beer?
Do you think you have an addiction problem?
Do you think you are an alcoholic?
Can't you ever go a day without a drink in your hand?
Can't you go anywhere without asking if there will be alcohol?

All these things people would ask me and I am very sure they have asked these same questions to just about every alcoholic that people and family worry about and care for their well being.

After all said and done I still never thought I had a addiction problem at all and just thought these people were rude and didn't know me as they thought they knew me.  Man was I dead wrong with thinking that way that's for sure.

Here are some examples of my lies and maybe a few will ring a bell to other alcoholics.
I promise I will slow down on my drinking.
I promise to only drink on weekends and Holidays.
Please don't leave me I will stop drinking alcohol now.
I didn't mean what I said last night, I was drunk.
I only had a couple of beers.
No I didn't stop at the bar on the way home from work.
I promise I will quit drinking alcohol after this weekend.
I will not buy anymore alcohol I promise.

Maybe some of these lies will hit home to a few alcoholics and maybe you will have your own lies that you think you will get away with.  Believe me, we are only lying and fooling our self and no one else.

'Get out of denial and stop lying and making excuses for your addiction and your actions and lifestyle.  Man up and surrender to your addiction and start to live life like it should be lived and that is clean and sober.

When you surrender and stop the lying it will feel like the world is lifted off your shoulders.  I know it felt that way for me once I became clean and sober.  No more lies and excuses why I drink and now more hiding behind the bottle. No more feeling embarrassed of your addiction and instead feeling proud as hell of your achievement of finding sobriety and living a new and sober life.

How A Positive Attitude Helps With Staying Sober

Many of us that are addicted to alcohol sometimes have a hard time keeping a positive attitude in our everyday living.  I for one was one of those people until I tried my luck a being sober.

Once I surrendered to my addiction to alcohol I found out just how a positive attitude helps with staying sober.  I have written many articles on HubPages.com on alcohol addiction, my life with alcohol, and just how I was able to surrender to my inner demons and be able to stay sober.

When we are addicted, not only to alcohol, but any sort of substance that can harm us and hinder our lives the way the addiction wants to, we tend to be a bit negative in our ways of living.  Most of us loss our self esteem and just let our addiction start to run and ruin our lives a little bit at a time until our addiction drives us right to rock bottom.

I caught my addiction pretty much before hitting rock bottom just by a hair.  I was on the verge of losing everything.  My home, my wife and my family if I didn't do something about my addiction to alcohol fast.

I first sat down alone and started to think of all the positive thing there were in drinking alcohol and came up with nothing, but it got me drunk.  I then thought of all the negative things of drinking alcohol and came up with many, such as:

  • Physical appearance has changed.
  • Weight gain.
  • Loss of interest in things I once loved to do.
  • Started to steer away from family and friends.
  • Wanted to drink alone.
  • Thought about the end of my work day to open that first beer.
  • Never went anywhere unless there was alcohol served.
If any of these sound familiar to you, maybe you should sit down as I did and think of just how alcohol is ruining your life and the ones that love and care about you, such as you spouse and family.

So, once I got out of the denial I lived in and began to start thinking positive thoughts I began to plan my new life and got myself ready for the change of my life once and for all.

I wanted to be clean and sober in worse way , but I was afraid of how my body would react without alcohol in it and in my life.  i had put my sobriety on hold for too long and it was time to change my life around.

I started by thinking positive as I said earier and continued to tell myself that I can and I will overcome my addiction to alcohol.  I would do anything to get sober and stay sober.

I made a promise to myself two years ago, that if I surrendered to my addiction and became sober I would never be able to pick up an alcoholic drink again for the rest of my life.  Once I was fine with that promise to myself then it was time to pick my start date and begin my recovery from the addiction that had run my life for so many years.

Having a positive attitude in life no matter if it is surrendering to an addiction or anything in life that you want  to do it will happen.  Remember, negative thoughts give negative results and Positive thought and attitude give positive results.  I know for a fact that haviing that positive attitude helped me so much and still does keeping me sober.

i write these articles and Hubs in hopes that it will help someone out in the world that is suffering with an addiction and to tell then to never give up hope of getting and staying sober.  It is all what you want out of the one and only life you have, so don't mess it up with poor health, car accidents or any foolish thing that alcohol makes you do or does to you.  If you believe and truly want sobriety back into your life you WILL be able to achieve it.

Admitting That You Are An Alcoholic Is A Step In The Right Direction

One of the very first things in being able to achieve your sobriety is admitting that you are an alcoholic.

By admitting you are an alcohol is a step in the right direction in finding your sobriety and start to live a clean and sober life again.

In my personal opinion and my personal experiences with being addicted to alcohol is that admitting you are an alcoholic is somewhat a hard thing to admit or to swallow. The word seems so harsh, but it is the truth whether you want to admit it or not.

For myself and many alcoholics out in the world today, we all have a problem admitting that we have a addiction to alcohol and we tend to live in our own little world of denial. I know that I lived in denial for many of years and never wanted to admit I truly had an addiction to alcohol no matter who or what was said to me regarding my addiction to alcohol.

I can honestly say, I never thought I had any problem whatsoever. That my friends is truly living in denial, somewhere I never want to be again.

In October 2009, I finally saw the light and finally realize I was an addicted to alcohol for the first time in my life. What came over me one night change my life forever.

I was sitting in my garage drinking my beer all alone as usual, when all of the sudden a voice can into my head. I heard the voice of God and him giving me a second chance in life. Now it was up to me me to listen and obey or ignore the voice and continue down the road to self destruction.

Or course, I listened to my God as he spoke with a calm and serene whisper in my head. He was given me a chance to get out of the denial that I was in and given my a second chance at life before it would be too late. I never experienced anything like this in my life. This whisper from God changed my life forever and I have been clean and sober since that night in October 2009.

It takes a real strong person to be able to admit that he/she is an alcoholic and when they finally admit it, they also ask for the help they will need to get their lives back to sobriety and start living a clean and sober again.

So, I you think you might be addicted to alcohol, take that first step and admit it to yourself and get out of the denial you have lived in for so long. You won't be sorry, believe me, I admitted I was addicted to alcohol and I did something about so that I may live a longer and healthier life.

The voice of God has stood by my side each and everyday giving me the strength and the willpower to stay sober. Taking each day one at a time is the best thing I could have done. I used to count the hours and then days being sober and look now, I am counting the years. I have been sober for a year and one half and it seems like it has only been a few months.

You will see for yourself that your life will improve in every aspect as you stay clean and sober. For me, my life is just about perfect now. My marriage is wonderful, when before, I would say it was ready to hit rock bottom, as I was, if I didn't stop drink alcohol.

Give sobriety a chance, and give your own life a second chance at living a clean and sober life, you won't be sorry.

How to Stop Drinking Alcohol

Have you ever wondered why some many people go overboard when it comes to drinking alcohol? Sure, we all want to have a great time when we are out and about with our family or friends, but where do we draw the line between having fun and getting drunk?

We all know how to drink alcohol, but do we really know how to stop drinking alcohol? This will be a question we will always ask ourselves throughout time.

Alcohol is everywhere in our society today and so many are becoming addicted each and everyday, unfortunately.

As young people start on their way in life, many think that drinking alcohol is the cool thing to do in order to impress their peers. Little do they know by starting to drink at such a early age some will become a prisoner of the bottle. The tolerance to alcohol will become greater as they continue to drink and party away like it was their last day on earth, and for some, unfortunately, it very well may be.

What I learned through my experiences with alcohol and being addicted to it was that my attitude and outlook on life was pretty negative which kind of made me feel worthless. So, what did I do? I opened another beer figuring this would be the fix all of all my problems.

Alcohol will never fix anything in life, it only makes things thousand time worse than they really are. Many people turn to alcohol in hopes that their problem will just vanish, and yes it may vanish when the person is in the drunkin state of mind. They forget about their problem, but only for a short time while drinking. Once the drinking binge stops the problem still is there the next day.

When you finally admit that you have an alcohol addiction you must then make up your mind to surrender to it. As hard as it sounds it can be done.
Many of people are basically afraid to quit drinking do to the fear of living with out their crutch.

They may worry about alcohol withdraw and everything that may go with quitting an addiction. We can not let those thing stand in our way of sobriety.

Here is a few tips that helped my become clean and sober.

* First I changed my attitude from negative to positive in everything.

* I looked at the pros and cons of drinking verses sobriety.

* I basically looked at my life as it was in all areas including the
effects it had on my family and their lives.

* I made a promise to myself to never pick up a drink again for the rest of
my life, no matter what happens that may give me the urge to drink.

* I prayed to our Lord God for the help and strength to be able conquer
this addiction once and for all.

* I had to leave behind some of my drinking buddies that were a bad
influence on me, and kept myself from things that may have given me the
given me the urge to drink.

* I keep myself busy not only physically, but mentally as well. I had to
keep my mind away from thinking about drinking

If you want to quit drinking alcohol you must first surrender and keep a positive attitude throughout the rest of your life. You must have the willingness and pure desire to become sober. You must learn to love yourself more and give your life a second chance to live.

Ways To Get And Stay Sober

So many people in our society today long to be sober, but they just do not know how to start to achieve this sometimes huge task in their lives.

First, you must get your mindset in a position that you are in a positive frame of mind. Being negative in anything in life will cause huge problems in accomplishing not only sobriety, but anything in life at all.

There are many ways to get and stay sober, but you must first want it so bad that you are willing to due anything to achieve this goal in your life.

The way I found that helped me get and stay sober was that I turn to God first off and asked for the most powerful help there is. You need to believe in the power above in order to achieve anything in life. He is the main peron to turn to first. Without you believing in him and without believing in yourself you will find it difficult to start out on the right track to the road to recovery.

Once you have finally surrendered to your addiction and admit to yourself that you have an addiction is when your life will start to turn for the better.

For myself and my experiences, I have found that a Positive Attitude is a remarkable thing to have why doing anything in life. It makes a world of difference in the out come of what you are tring to achieve. Being negative just throws a curve ball into your goals and you will never get to where you want to be in life.

It was somewhat a tough road in the begining for me as I started on my road to recovery and leaving my demons behind. We are so used to having these alcohol demons in our everyday life that in the begining, we tend to wonder just how we are going to survive with out our harmful and deadly friends.

Well, from my experiences I have found it a blessing to leave those demons behind and never look back at that awful life I had when addicted. It was not that hard for me to accomplish this life change because I first started off with that positive attitude and prayed to God that I would make this happen and stay sober for the rest of my life.

I truly believe that our minds can make or break us in life, it's all how we train our minds. Like I said before, if we live our lives in a negative manner then our lives will be nothing but negative in anything we do.

Some of the ways I found that helped me stay sober in the being and still to this day is that I keep myself busy, not only physically but mentally as well. We need to keep doing this in order to stay sober. Keep that mind busy so that we don't have a moment to think of our past addiction problems that once ran our minds and bodies.

Stay positive and focused on your new and sober life, and in time you will see a bright and shinning light up ahead and and a sign saying welcome to the world of sobriety.

DREAMS CAN COME TRUE

All my life I aways had big dreams.  To own a huge house over looking the water with a dock and a nice boat.Or, over looking the beautiful ocean and the smell of salt air and the warm breeze blowing through my hair.
My parents always told me I had rich taste. I guess I got that from my mothers side of the family, because her relatives owned a castle in England, with servants and maids.  That is were I get the rich taste, I guess.

So, my story is that in the last almost 3 months I have been sober, and with the sobriety I can now think straight and have my head together to try and live these big dreams that I could not get before sobriety.  I am on a path to achieve these high goals I have.  First, by going to school to get my realtor licience , and sell some great properties in the shore area and get those big commissions too. Not a over night job, but it is possible in the near future. My father and uncle sold home and did very well.  I know the business of homes only because I have built a few of them with my father in-law from start to finish, including concrete, framing and everything that goes with house building.  So, I have that part  conquered  and I know what to look for in finding a great home for a buyer.

Second, is to retire from the job I have now, which is a Manager for a large Cemetery and Crematory in New Jersey.  I have been working in that field for about 24 years and before that I worked at a hospital for 10 years..In my opinion that is about enough of that kind of work for me. I have seen it all and have done it all, and don't want to see it or do it anymore.  It's time for my big dream to come true!  People say how in the world can you do that kind of work. I tell them first, you have to be caring and kind to the people you serve because they come into the office grieving of their loss and it is my job to try the best I can to comfort them. I must say I am great at that and I will be great in the selling of homes. I have a lot of confidence in myself now being sober and also a clear mind to get those big dreams and make them a reality.
