Why Is It So Hard To Stop Drinking Alcohol

There are millions of people in the world that drink alcohol.  Some can handle their alcohol and then there are some that just get addicted and wind up abusing alcohol.

For those that got addicted to the booze and want to stop drinking often ask them self, "why is it so hard to stop drinking alcohol?"

I know for a fact, trying to stop drinking alcohol is a very hard thing to overcome since you have been drinking and abusing it for so long.  Somewhere deep down inside us (the alcoholic) wants to live a life of sobriety, but the alcohol that has been in our life for so long wants no part of leaving our bodies.  The demons are settled in us, and very content as long as we feed them the daily dose of alcohol.

But, watch out if we decide to slow down or simply stop drinking all together. That would really piss off the demons inside each alcoholic, and they will put your body through the tortures of hell.  We all know how we feel if we stop drinking.  I know that I felt like crap for sometime, but I keep telling myself that I can and will beat this addiction to alcohol I have.

Any alcoholic can do the same if that is what you want in your life.  Many alcoholics are very content with drinking alcohol everyday of their lives and don't care what the consequences will be in the future.

If you truly love yourself, you will not put your body through this painful thing we call alcohol addiction.  You can stop drinking if you want to!  You are the one that is in full control of the one and only body you have.

Give your life a second chance and just try to stop drinking and see how your life will begin to turn around as mine did back in 2009.

A would recommend highly to seek Professional Help if you do decide to stop drinking.  You have to detox the right and safe way.  It will be very dangerous if you try to stop drinking on your own as I did.  I made up my mind to quit drinking back in October 2009 and simply went cold turkey.  Yes I was scared to death for things I heard about going cold turkey and the dangers of doing so.

I took upon my own to do it anyway regardless of the outcome.  Why, because I was afraid to go to any Doctor or Rehab. Center for the worry of what they may say to me regarding my long relationship with alcohol. I even thought to myself, "it just might too late to heal my body and live a sober life."

With that said, I chose to go Cold Turkey anyway.  I took a huge change and worried every minute of the day and night, wondering if something horrible was going to happen to me.  Will I get sick by not detoxing the correct and safe way? I was a nervous wreck I must say.

Once I made it through the first week or so without a drink, and my nerves started to get a little better, I knew I could make it and change my life.

So Lets Get Back To The Main Question Of Why Is It So Hard For You To Stop Drinking Alcohol?

  • Is it that you are simply not ready to stop drinking?
  • Is it that you don't know how you will survive without alcohol in your body?
  • Is it that you feel that your drinking friends will look down at you because you stopped drinking?
  • Is it that you feel you would have no more fun at parties or any kind of functions?
  • What is stopping you from changing your life?
  • There must be something holding you back from living a life of sobriety.
  • You must know the answer of why it is so hard to quit drinking.
  • Are you simply afraid of living clean and sober because you have been drinking for so long?
Stopping drinking is not as hard as most people make it to be.  I thought I would never in a million years be clean and sober again, but I sure fooled myself.  If you want something bad enough in life you will achieve it, and that includes your sobriety.

The only thing holding you back from sobriety is, you and you alone.  You make the call my friends.  I guess it depends on whether or not you wish to live or die.

Does that word DIE frighten you?  It should.  We all were given a gift of life and many of us chose to ruin the one and only life we have with the addiction to alcohol and drugs.

Life is precious and we should start to cherish our life a little more than we do.  Get sober and get healthy again.  Live the life you were given in a clean and sober way, and stop making excuses of why it is so hard to quit drinking.

Put your mind to it and it will happen.  Think positive and act positive and you will see results, and that includes anything in life.  Negativity will get you nowhere in life, but pure depression.

It is not hard to stop drinking.  I did it and so can you!  The only way to stop drinking alcohol is to JUST STOP!  It is that simple.  Now, make up your mind to get sober and do it.  Time is wasting away, and your life clock is ticking away as you hesitate on getting sober and finding your sobriety.

Overcoming The Fear Of Getting Sober

Have you ever thought to yourself how sobriety and living a clean life could change your life?  Are you afraid of getting sober? Have you ever thought to yourself by overcoming the fear of getting sober would change your life in so many ways?

I am here to tell you, that there is nothing to be afraid of when you want to get sober and live a life of sobriety.  I too was scared to death when I decided to get sober and I have to say the fear almost stopped me from even trying to get clean and sober.

Many people in our world have had many fears and things that they are truly afraid of trying, but if you are afraid of change, or simply trying to change, you will be stuck in the rut that you are presently in.  Being addicted to alcohol for so years seems like it is a huge part of my and your life and we are afraid to let it go and live life without our crutch.

Any of us can overcome anything in life including the fear of getting sober if we set our minds to it and have that pure determination to make a change.  Never be afraid of sobriety, but be afraid of what your addiction is and will do to you and your family.  That's the thing you must be afraid of my friends, your addiction!

Set you mindset and get the strength you need to overcome your addiction and get sober. If you have it in your heart to get sober than you will achieve it.  This holds true for anything in life as well.

Believe in yourself and be not afraid of getting sober for it will be the best thing you have ever done in your life, and when you have achieved your sobriety, you will thank yourself for standing strong to your demons and not letting them take over and run your life anymore.

How A Positve Attitude Helps With Getting Sober

Have you any idea how a positive attitude helps with getting sober?  For many people that are suffering from an addiction to alcohol sobriety and getting sober is the last thing on their mind.  Why, you may ask?  When an alcoholic has been drinking for so many years they forget just how sobriety and being clean and sober feels.

They have a hard time with excepting that they may have an addiction problem, and don't what to admit that they are living in denial and think nothing of drinking and partying, just like it is the way of life for everyone.  Well everyone in our society and in our world drink and abuse alcohol to the point of getting addicted to it.

When I finally said, "enough is enough" and surrendered to my addiction to alcohol is when I realized that a positive attitude has had a huge impact on my sobriety and has helped me to get sober and using that positive attitude continues to keep me sober as well.

Can you imagine walking around with that chip on your shoulder and thinking nothing but negative thoughts, saying why me?  How in the world can anyone get sober thinking negative and telling them self that they will never be able to kick their addiction and get clean and sober. Thinking is this manner no one will ever get sober.

Just think about it.  Negative thoughts give negative results and positive thoughts give positive results.  Sound right to me, how about you?

I can certainly say from my experience with drinking alcohol, and then getting sober, that my positive attitude helped me to get sober, and without thinking this way I would still be stuck in my little world of my own addiction and self destruction.  Our minds, and we all have one I might add, can and will do anything you tell it to.  If you want to live in a world of addiction and telling yourself you will never get sober than that is exactly what your life will be.

Now, lets turn the coin and say you are thinking nothing but positive thoughts and thinking with that positive attitude telling yourself that you can and will get and stay sober no matter what it takes to achieve your sobriety.  Which of the two attitudes do you think will work the best for you?  I have my answer, how about you, do you have your answer?  I think the answer is a no brainier in my opinion.

Stuggling Everyday To Stay Sober

For all those that has had an addiction to alcohol and now in recovery find themselves struggling everyday to stay sober and deep in back of their minds wonder if they will relapse during the upcoming Holiday Season.

How strong are you?  Do you think you are stronger than the demons inside you that are just
waiting for you to give in and start drinking alcohol again?  The demons lay back waiting for you to break, but you have to smarter and stronger than them.  As for myself, they have a long long wait to see another drop of alcohol pass my lips.

Sure every alcoholic that has chose to get clean and sober struggles to stay clean and sober and I think that it pretty much the norm, at least it is for me.  What the heck, when you lived with alcohol in your life everyday for years the urge and temptation does come about now and then, but you just have to let that urge pass and not break and drink, not even one drop or else we all know what happens next.  Yep, right back where we began at day one again trying to get sober again.

Don't let anything or anyone get in your way of your sobriety and continue telling yourself you will remain sober no matter what life throws at you.

Life seems like a struggle not only with addictions, but just to live each and everyday and to live it healthy, sober and manage your everyday lives to the fullest, but no one said life is easy right?

You need to make the best of each day and whatever you do, you need to do it the best you can and to your fullest expectations.  Don't cut yourself short, and don't get down on yourself because you might have not accomplished something you thought would of work out well.  If by any chance you do relapse, don't be too hard on yourself, but be stern enough to start all over again and get back up and try again.

Many of us do relapse for one reason or another, but you need to try again and if need be, again until you get it right and stay sober.  Some of us get sobriety on the first try, but those that are having a tough time, never give up on yourself.  Work as hard as you can to achieve your sobriety and at the end of the day and you are clean and sober you will look back at your journey and the hard work you put forth to get sober, you will be one proud person.

Happy Sober Holidays Everyone!!!

What Steps Are Needed To Getting Clean And Sober

There are so many people that have an addiction to alcohol in our world today.  Sad to say, but so very true.  You have no idea just how many people suffer from alcoholism and want a better life , but have no idea how to go about getting that life of sobriety.

They are caught up in the world of addiction with nowhere to turn, or should I say, they choose not to change for the fear of how their life would be without their crutch.

What steps are needed to getting clean and sober?

Step #1 -  First and most important, the alcoholic needs to want to be clean and sober and not get sober because someone is forcing it on them.  They have to want sobriety so bad that they are willing to do anything to get their life back on track and get sober.

Step #2 - They have to get out of the denial they have been living in and finally admit to them self that they are indeed an alcoholic and need help to get clean and sober.  I think once the alcoholic admits there is a huge problem with them and their family life, in which is totally effected by the actions of the addicted person, things will begin to make more sense of why they should try their hardest to surrender to their addiction to alcohol.

Step #3- They have to look at their life and how they are living it in comparison to the way they lived before getting addicted to this horrible addiction we call alcoholism.  They must see for themselves that they are destroying their bodies and their family as well.

Step#4 - They need to visualize how their life can be living it sober.  Once they can see that their future can be brighter they may then just surrender to their addiction to alcohol.  All they have to do is to look around them and see for them self who is avoiding them.  People that may have been close friends and falling distant because of the poor life style the alcoholic has could be the reason they steer away and avoid being around the alcoholic. The alcoholic can surely see that something is missing in their life and without changing their life they might just lose everything they have over time including their own life.  Addictions are nothing to mess with.  It is like holding a loaded gun and playing Russian Roulette.  Sooner or later you will pull the trigger and the one single bullet in the chamber will be fired.

Step#5-  The alcoholic needs to take a good hard look at their spouse and children a see just how his/her addiction is also effecting them and ruining their lives as well.  You really have to be blind not to see that your bad habits effect many people, not only yourself.

Step #6- The alcoholic needs to change his/her outlook in life and stop feeling sorry for them self and start doing something about it and then take massive action to get sober if they truly want to be free of their addiction once and for all.  Sobriety is out there for all.  It will not come to you.  You need to go after it and shut down the demons inside of you that run and ruin all those addicted in time.  The only way to beat you addiction is to SURRENDER to it.

Step#7- Tell yourself and promise yourself that you will never pick up another alcoholic drink the rest of your life.  If you can hold true to this promise to yourself then you are serious about getting clean and sober.  So now, all you have to do is to JUST DO IT and don't look back.  Run as fast as you can from your addiction.  Never be weak and let your demons back into your life no matter what happens, whether it be bad or good.  Don't back down or give in because something may have happened to upset you and feel as if you need to drink to fix the problem because believe me it won't work.

Step#8- Keep a Positive Attitude towards get sober.  Believe in yourself.  Tell yourself no matter what happens in your life you WILL NOT relapse. Stay strong.  Keep determined to stay clean and sober forever.  Stay busy physically and mentally.  Take up a hobby that you are interested in.  Spend quality time with your family. If you feel uneasy at a party that is serving alcohol, don't go!  Stay clear of all those that are still drinking alcohol and partying. ( These people just may try and shame you into drinking again, but don't give in.)  Just walk away and say NO THANKS.  You know those words, "MISERY LOVES COMPANY"  Don't be the company.  Be stronger than your addiction and with all this and the determination and desire to get and stay sober you should have no problem getting clean and sober.  It's all in the mind and that mind you have can do miraculous things if you let it, so lets get sober and stay sober!!

Are You Afraid Of Relapsing: Tips To Help You Stay Sober

One of the biggest fears for a person in recovery is the fear of relapsing, whether is be alcoholism or being addicted to drugs.

When I became clean and sober people would ask me, "are you afraid of relapsing?" My answer was no and I have tips to help you stay sober.  I have written many articles on tips that have helped me stay sober.  These tips worked wonderful for me and I must say, if you are serious about getting sober and staying sober read what worked for me and took the fear out of me relapsing.  They just may help you not to relapse after working so hard to get clean and sober.

THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME TO STAY SOBER:

First off, when I decided to surrender to my addiction and you have decided to do the same, you must tell yourself you will never be able to pick up an alcoholic drink for the rest of your life.  If you can accept that strong promise to yourself, then you are on your way to sobriety.

Please don't get me wrong.  When I surrendered to my alcohol addiction the first few month and sometime even to this day, I get the urge to drink alcohol, but I continue to remind myself of the promise to myself back when I quit drinking alcohol.

The thoughts that went through my mind were powerful in the respect of just how hard I worked to get to the point of sobriety I was in at that moment the urge came about me to drink, and I must say, by thinking how hard I worked stopped that urge right away.

This goes for anyone that is trying their hardest to stay sober without relapsing.  Think of all the hard work and determination you have to stay clean and sober.  Just think if you were to have that urge to drink and you figured, what the heck, one drink shouldn't hurt.  Once you put that drink to your lips and swallow it, the demons will then be waken and your life may just change by one single sip of a drink.  I say these things by my own experiences with drinking alcohol, but some of you may be able to have that one drink and call it quits, BUT I hardly doubt it would work out for those who wish to try their luck at drinking alcohol again.

There will be many things in the rest of your life while in recovery that may upset you or huddles you may to jump, but never let any of these things in life make you back down from your demons and wind up relapsing.  You can solve anything being sober.  You don't need drugs or alcohol to get through life anymore and always remember that!

Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic sad to say.  I know for a fact if I were to take a sip of alcohol I would be doomed and back to drinking alcohol everyday and I am sure many other alcoholic would fit right into the same category as myself, so the best and only thing to do is to NOT PICK UP that drink.

Aways remember, whether you believe it or not, that you can have more fun being sober than being drunk, at least that is what I have learned now being clean and sober. .

If you keep a positive attitude and stay strong to yourself, and most of all, learn the most important word in the world for any person addicted to alcohol or drugs, and that is the "WORD NO."

Are You Ready To Get Sober

I asked a question to myself over two years ago and that was, "are you ready to get sober Mark?"  When people drink alcohol they tend to change into someone else in the eyes of others, but the person drinking doesn't see just how their mood, personality and actions change when drinking alcohol.

For myself, when I drank, I thought I was perfect and I never did anything that would hinder my actions or hurt someone physically or mentally with what I did or what I said.  I found out when I became clean and sober I was dead wrong by what people would tell me as I stood in front of them sober.  I was shocked to hear many things and never knew.  I was the talk of the town years ago and never knew it.

The question I have for anyone that is addicted to alcohol is, "when will you be ready to get sober and stay sober?"

Will it take something drastic to happen to you or your life?  Will it take being on the verge of losing your family and friends all because you are drinking too much and can't stop no matter what happens or what people say to you?

This is something to really think about.  You need to put your priorities in order and think to yourself which is more important, your life, your family and friends or the booze?

Make up your mind one way or another whether you want sobriety in your life or just stay on the path of self destruction by drinking alcohol and take the chance of losing your family or possibly losing your own life.

You can get sober, believe me.   The only thing you must do to start the process of recovery is to admit you have a problem and surrender to you inner demons once and for all.  Once you have surrender and ask for the help you need to get sober, then the process of recovery will begin.

Understand, this will not happen overnight getting back to your old sober life.  It took years for you to get addicted to alcohol and it will take time to get used to being sober and having no alcohol in your body, but don't fear, each and everyday sober will get easier and easier, at least it did for me.

Stay focused on getting clean and sober.  Stay positive and keep that positive attitude going and continue to tell yourself that you can and will get sober again, and with the strength,
determination and the willingness to get sober, it will indeed happen.

This May Help You In Your Quest To Get Sober.

How To Overcome An Addiction To Alcohol

For so many people that have an addiction, it is hard to tell them how to overcome an addiction to alcohol.  Those that are fortunate enough to not have this problem don't understand just how hard it is to surrender to something that is a huge part of ones life, meaning the alcoholic has lived with their addiction for so many years it's like a part of them.  They need it everyday of their lives to make it through their day.

In order to surrender to their addiction to alcohol, they will have to be willing to give in to their demons and quit drinking alcohol once and for all.  This is a scary thought to the alcoholic because they are afraid of how they might feel with the absence of alcohol in their bodies.

I can testify to this statement, because when I surrendered to my addiction to alcohol I was scared to death of the way I might feel without alcohol in my body.  I knew I would have some reactions and would feel like crap without the alcohol in my body, but I made my mind up to quit drinking and there was nothing that was going to stop me from reaching sobriety and long term sobriety to boot.

To be able to overcome anything or any problem in life is certainly a challenge to say the least, but if you are willing to make that change in your life you will do anything to achieve what you have set out to do, and in my case, and every alcoholic's case, getting clean and sober is the our challenge in life and once we conquered that we will feel at peace that our demons have been overcome and all of us (the alcoholics) should be so very proud of what they have accomplished in achieving our sobriety.

I just want to try and tell those that are addicted to alcohol to never give up hope on yourself for sobriety is in your future, only if you want it bad enough, as I did.  Continue to keep a positive attitude and keep telling yourself that you can and will get clean and sober.

To overcome anything in life takes hard work, determination and the willingness to walk away from your demons and live life sober.

OVERCOME YOUR ADDICTION NOW!

  • Get out of denial and admit you have an addiction to alcohol and need help.
  • Stop thinking negative and begin having a positive attitude.
  • Tell everyone you are going to stop drinking alcohol.
  • Be happy for yourself that you are about to change your life for the good.
  • Don't be embarrassed of your addiction to alcohol.
  • Believe in yourself and love yourself enough to get clean and sober.
  • Stay clear of your past drinking buddies.
  • Stay away from the bars and places you once drank alcohol at.
  • Plan your goals and prepare for your sobriety.
  • Keep yourself busy physically and mentally at all times.
These things helped me to get clean and sober, and I hope they help you in your journey into your new life of sobriety.  REMEMBER: Life is too short to ruin it with an avoidable addiction!

How To Live Sober And Be Happy

For many people that are addicted to alcohol, sobriety hasn't been in their lives for some time.  This statement also refers to myself.  Years have gone by and we the alcoholics forget what it feels like to be clean and sober and to wake up in the morning refreshed and happy.  We wake up with a huge headache and some may even go for the bottle first thing in the morning just to take that edge off and get back into the feeling they had when retiring to bed the night before.

Once that first drink of the day is drank, we are right back to that buzzed feeling again.  Some of us just have one or two drinks to start our day and then there are those that have the first drink and continue to drink the rest of their day.

Through my experiences drinking alcohol I would like to try and explain how to live sober and be happy.  I thought when I drank alcohol I was a happy person, in fact most alcoholics think they are happy, and they very well maybe, but the alcohol can play those head games with you.  My demons played many of games with my mind, such as making me think I was happy, but in fact I was very miserable on the inside and may of try to act happy to others, but I knew deep down the true feeling inside.

Living sober and being happy is in any one's life if you truly want to live and feel that way.  There are those that simply want to be miserable and unhappy and I truly think they don't know any better.  They have lived with their addiction for so many years they just think that it is the way of life.

Once I had decided to surrender to my addiction I then began my new quest of living life simple and began to try to be a bit more happy.  By living life simple I have realized that I didn't need all those fancy things in life to be happy.  In fact, I am the happiest I have ever been just living simple.

I sold my home and downsized to a smaller one in a 55+ community where the only thing I have to pay for now is my land (HOA) fees.  Now sober I can appreciate even the smallest of things and really appreciate living so close to the Ocean and Bay and only minutes away.

You need to learn to live simple and to just enjoy what you have and stop wanting more and more out of life, because in my opinion it only brings misery when you get so far in debt that you have a hard time getting out of it.  I now have clean out, thrown out everything I don't need and just live with the simplest things and the things that are nessessary in my everyday living.

Sobriety and liviing life simple is my top priority along with my wife and family.  With all said, life is wonderful and stress free to say the least in which helps me to stay sober because I have no more worrries or stress in my life living it simple and being happy doing it.

Anyone, as I said, can do this if you are willing to give up a few things as I did by stopping drinking first and the rest came right into place.  If you are willing to change your life for the better than in the long run you will be happier and if you are an alcoholic and decide to get and stay sober you will see just how great life is living it sober, and living it happy.
